JOB SUMMARY: The Senior Cost Accountant performs various cost accounting reporting functions for the accounting department. In this capacity, he/she interacts with the other National Accounting and Purchasing Administration personnel, as well as division personnel to ensure the integrity of the accounting information. Additionally, this position will be proficient in the General Ledger Accountant functions. Finally, he/she will understand the implications of non-lot level accounting and work to resolve non-lot staging issues in a timely manner.

The Senior Cost Accountant is a member of the accounting department. The Accounting Department consists of: Controller, Assistant Controller/Accounting Manager, Senior Cost Accountant, and General Ledger Accountant.

This position reports to the Controller and Assistant Controller/Accounting Manager and has no direct reports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
While there may be some division specific tasks included, the following is a list of primary responsibilities the Senior Cost Accountant will become proficient in and will be held accountable for the timely and accurate completion of:

Technical
  • Schedule 35 and Variable contribution closed home analysis
  • Recording and tracking OBS, financing arrangements and land purchases
  • Variable contribution backlog analysis
  • Project set up and maintenance
  • Cost to complete analysis for all inventory
  • Due diligence tracking and reporting
  • Inventory management, including 11A cleanup and WIP reports
  • First review of general ledger accountant work product, as directed
  • Prepare pre-sweep and 5 month sweep of direct construction; Identify and communicate trends
  • Abandonment accrual and/or adjustments as necessary
  • Review offsite development budgets (Schedule 14) and applicable budget revisions
  • Review construction variance account and communicate trends
  • Review model upgrade budgets (Schedule 17) and applicable budget revisions
  • Assist with Accounting Manager/Assistant Controller duties, as directed
  • Review of remote check requests and other weekly check requests
  • Property tax analysis and accrual
  • IT exception reports review and analysis
  • Lag accrual for direct construction
  • Rebate tracking
  • Capitalized interest analysis and accrual
  • Account reconciliation preparation and analysis
  • Microsoft Excel Skills (pivot tables, formulas, etc)
  • Inventory cost-allocation maintenance
  • Assist in the preparation of audit support requests
  • Utility and other offsite receivable set up and tracking
  • Bond/Deposit exoneration and tracking
  • Prepare gain/loss analysis for land sales
  • Quarter end inventory reporting
  • Other special projects, as required
Non-Technical
  • Training of General Ledger Accountants
  • Ability to effectively communicate with NAPA and division personnel
  • Good communication skills, works well with people, positive attitude, meets deadlines 
  • May be required to work overtime as necessary
